Reports that Israeli invasion of Gaza imminent

The Independent is reporting that an armoured brigade is poised to launch a ground invasion into Gaza.

It quoted the Israeli army saying that after militants in the besieged strip fired over 450 rockets into its territory over the last 24 hours, the Israeli army will be launching a ground offensive into Gaza.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a cabinet meeting on Sunday and said he instructed the IDF to strengthen its infantry, armored and artillery forces in the South.

Netanyahu also sent a message to the citizens of Israel, saying that “I call on citizens to strictly adhere the security regulations.

A man in this late 50s killed in the Southern city of Ashkelon by rocket fire amid an overnight flare up of cross-border fighting.

He is the first Israeli civilian to be killed since the 2014 war, the Israel Defence Forces said. 


Gaza’s health ministry, meanwhile, said seven Palestinians have been killed and 47 injured Israeli strikes, including a pregnant woman and a one year-old baby.

But a spokesman for the Israeli army claimed his country’s intelligence found that the the pregnant women and the baby were actually killed accidentally by friendly fire. He added that the Israeli armed forces have struck 220 different targets across the Gaza Strip in retaliation for the rocket fire.
