Italian actor legally recognised as Domenico Modugno’s son

The supreme Court of Cassation on Monday recognised actor Fabio Camilli as the legitimate son of late Italian singing legend Domenico Modugno.

A case that had been dragging on for 18 years in various legal battles.

Fabio is the son of Triestine dancer, choreographer and director Maurizia Calì, the “beautiful Kalì” of one of Modugno’s innumerable hits, ‘Pasqualino Maragià’.

He said “the paternity recognition process with an average length of 4-5 years turned into a long obstacle course for me, lasting what I think is a record 18 years.
“In any case it’s over, I’ve done it. There are many people I’ll have to thank for being close to me over the years.

Modugno had died on the 6th August of 1994.

When his song “Nel blu dipinto di blu” (aka “Volare”) hit the top slot on the US charts in 1958, it became the only Italian song ever to do so. It went on to win the very first “Record of the Year” and “Song of the Year” categories at the Grammys when the recording industry’s awards show premiered that year.

He made over 200 recordings and sold 60 million records, in the process becoming Italy’s most successful performing artist. Modugno had begun his career as a small part supporting actor in films.

He is the father of three sons – Marco Modugno, Marcello Modugno and Massimo Modugno.
