Italian football team puts Genoa in the spotlight while honouring the victims and orphans of the Genoa Bridge Collapse

The Italian National Football team has visited the Ponte Morandi, while laying a wreath of flowers and observing a minute of silence in memory of the 43 victims of the tragedy that hit the city on August 14th.

The players, the staff and the managers of the team were welcome by the President of the Liguria Region Giovanni Toti:

“Playing in Genoa is an important message that allows the country to keep the spotlight on the city. We thank all of you “. 

The visit to the place of collapse, preceded by that of a delegation of Ukraine and is part of a  series of initiatives organised by the Italian football federation in agreement with the municipal administration and the Region.

The players and the coach Roberto Mancini will be meeting a hundred children from the Red Zone of the city and the 9 orphans of the tragedy, to whom the FIGC has committed itself to provide a scholarship for the next three years.

At a press conference, the Councillor of the Liguria Region Giacomo Giampedrone will deliver the Civil Protection shirt to coach Roberto Mancini (who spent his football player career in Genoa), while the councillor Ilaria Cavo and the city councillor with delegation to the Sport Stefano Anzalone will donate the jersey with the inscription ‘Genoa in the heart  to the ‘genoano’ Domenico Criscito and ‘Sampdoriano’ Gianluca Caprari as a token of thanks for all the actions taken by the FIGC in support of the territory.

Tomorrow the Federcalcio invited the citizens forced to leave their homes after the collapse of the bridge to the friendly match with Ukraine. The teams will enter the field accompanied by the young escorts, who will wear the shirts with the words ‘Genoa in the heart’ and the same message will be reported on the national team shirt customized for this particular occasion.

 During the match, broadcast live by RAI 1, all indications will be provided to encourage donations from viewers, while at 43 ‘all victims will be remembered with the involvement of the public.
