Italian footballer ‘kidnapped’ mid-match

There was an unusual scene in an Catanese Third Category game between Viagrande and Nebrodi when a helicopter landed on the pitch and three men, two of which were wearing balaclavas, jumped off and quickly dragged a player, Ignazio Barbagallo, 55, onto the helicopter before taking off in cloud of dust.

According to Fox Sports Italy, it was in fact the latest stunt staged by Barbagallo, who is said to have a reputation as a prankster.

It seems Barbagallo wanted to bow out in the most unique way possible, however, he did also get himself and his club in to trouble.
He was banned from football until June 30th but it is pretty much obsolete given he’s called it a day but Viagrande have received a €200 fine and had a suspension from competition until May 31 impose by Sicilian football authorities.
