Italian retail sales drop by 2.2% in July

Italian retail sales fell 2.2% in July from the month before, data showed on Tuesday, following a 10.2% rise in June.

National statistics institute ISTAT revised down June’s data from an originally reported 12.1% increase. Sales fell 7.2% in unadjusted year-on-year terms in July, ISTAT said.

The data are expressed in value terms and are not adjusted for consumer prices, which increased 0.8% in July from the year earlier, based on Italy’s EU-harmonised index (HICP).
