Italy in the grip of heatwave, heat alert issued for 11 Italian cities.

Italy is currently on alert due to a heatwave  large part of the country. On Wednesday, the cities hit most by the heat will be Rome and 10 other cities.

According to the bulletin issued by the Ministry of Health, in addition to the capital, the heat level will rise to 2 in Ancona, Bologna, Bolzano, Campobasso, Frosinone, Latina, Palermo, Perugia, Pescara and Rieti.

The situation will worsen on Thursday 20th when there will be 15 cities marked by the orange badge to which the red sticker will be added to the city of Perugia.

In the coming hours, the North African heatwave will reach Sardinia with 39°C in Oristano, Puglia with 36°C, while it will bring 35°C to Umbria (Terni) and 34°C to the North (Forlì). The capital will experience the first 34°C of the season.

The heatwave will be significantly more intense between Wednesday, June 19, and Friday, June 21: by Saturday, thunderstorms may arrive, especially in the North, to somewhat mitigate the situation.

This period, with the peak of the heat, will cause thermometers to soar to exceptional levels for June, up to 12 degrees above the climatological norm. Only locally will temperatures rise a bit less due to greyer or hazier skies: some veiling is expected, especially on the western side, with a lot of desert sand that could partially block the sun’s rays.

Despite the veiling, the hottest area during the mid-week peak will be Cagliari: 44°C is expected in the hottest inland areas, far from the cool sea breeze.

The ranking of the hottest provinces will be topped by Benevento and Taranto with 41°C; Agrigento, Caserta, Foggia, Macerata, Siracusa, and Terni with 40°C will take the silver medal, a medal still blazing hot.

Finally, with temperatures reaching 39°C, we will find Ascoli Piceno, Catania, Fermo, Frosinone, Matera, and Ragusa, while Avellino, Chieti, Forlì, Isernia, and notably Rome and Naples will oscillate between 38 and 39°C.
