Deaths from the COVID-19 epidemic in Italy climbed by 92 on Monday, against 50 the day before, the Civil Protection Agency said, while the daily tally of new cases dropped to just 300 from 531 on Sunday. However, the previous day’s tally did not take the worst-hit region of Lombardy into consideration due to technical issues.

The toll of new infections represents the lowest rate since 29th February.

Italy‘s total death toll since the outbreak came to light on Feb. 21 now stands at 32,877, the agency said, the third highest in the world after those of the United States and Britain.

The number of confirmed cases amounts to 230,158, the sixth highest global tally behind those of the United States, Russia, Spain, Britain and Brazil.

Meanwhile, police authorities said that 1,321 persons were fined for breaking social distancing requirements during the weekend. Over 238,000 checks were carried out. However, with many people filling Milan’s streets over the past few days in the evening, in what the locals define as La Movida, the city’s mayor has prohibited the sale of take-away drinks after 7pm.
