Poland’s prime minister and the European Commission chief will meet for talks on Wednesday amid a protracted rule-of-law dispute between Warsaw and Brussels, according to reports.

Radio Poland, reports that the meeting between Mateusz Morawiecki and Jean-Claude Juncker will take place in Sofia when European leaders gather for dinner on the eve of a European Union-Western Balkans summit in the Bulgarian capital, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR agency reported on Tuesday, citing European Commission spokesman Margaritis Schinas.

Frans Timmermans, the First Vice-President of the European Commission, said on Monday that the EU executive was not withdrawing its punitive Article 7 procedure against Poland.

“We’ve made some progress, but we are not in a position to say the issue has been resolved,” Timmermans said about an ongoing dispute with Warsaw over court reforms and Poland’s alleged breach of rule-of-law principles.
