Latest developments in Malta puts Manchester United’s sponsorship deal under spotlight – The Sun

The sponsorship deal between Manchester United and  Malta is back in the spotlight because of the island’s ongoing political scandal.

According to a report on The Sun the resignation of Konrad Mizzi this week in relation to the murder of an investigative journalist in 2017 put the deal under focus.

The Sun reports “Mizzi led the Maltese delegation at September’s announcement of the multi-year deal fixed up with United chief Ed Woodward to be the club’s official tourism destination.”

The report added that the deal quickly hit controversy as Mizzi denied claims it would cost island taxpayers about £17million. It also said that the Malta Tourism Authority refused a freedom of information request to reveal the true figure from The Times of Malta.
