Latvia Encourages Citizens to Strengthen National Reserve

Latvia’s National Armed Forces are encouraging citizens to apply for next year’s reservist basic military training. The course will run from August 8 to 29, 2026, and applications are open until February 2, 2026 via the recruitment platform klustikaravirs.lv.

The programme is open to Latvian citizens aged 18 to 60 with no prior military background. Those who complete the training and take the soldier’s oath will receive a reserve soldier’s certificate, a mobilisation order, and be formally placed in the armed forces reserve. The course covers core skills such as weapons handling, live fire, communications, regulations, fieldcraft, topography, navigation, and basic medicine, along with collective field exercises.

Training will be delivered through classroom instruction, on-site sessions, and field exercises, with both theoretical and practical testing. Participants will be housed either in barracks or tents and will receive uniforms, equipment, meals or rations, and daily compensation of €41.75. The course will be held in Alūksne, with rest days on August 16 and 23. Eligible applicants must have at least primary education, B1-level Latvian, and meet health standards verified by a medical commission.
