Latvia to Ban One-Off Bus Trips to Russia and Belarus from October

Latvia plans to ban occasional passenger bus services to Russia and Belarus from 15 October, citing heightened border security concerns, the Ministry of Transport said.

The measure would cover one-off, pre-planned trips such as sightseeing tours and group excursions. Border guards would block such services at the Pāternieki, Grebņeva and Terehova crossings.

Transport Minister Atis Švinka said passenger traffic to the two countries has recently increased, raising security risks. The proposal, drafted in coordination with the Ministry of the Interior, still needs government approval.

Regular scheduled bus services would remain permitted on a restricted basis.
