Magnitude 4.9 earthquake hits Iran

A handout intensity map made available by the United States Geological Survey shows the location of a magnitude 4,9 earthquake which hit at a depth of 10km, near the city of Borazjan, Iran, 08 January 2020.

According to the Iranian State news agency IRNA, rescue teams are present at site of the quake disaster that shook the towns of Bushehr and Borazjan in southern Iranian and so far there have not been reports of casualties.

According to the Seismological Center of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the tremor occurred at 05:50 hours local time (2:20 GMT) and at the depth of 9 km underground.

The epicenter of the quake was located at 51.30 degrees longitude and 29.19 degrees latitude.

The quake occurred near the Bushehr nuclear plant.
