Major breakthrough in Italy as new coronavirus is ‘isolated’

The virologists of the Spallanzani hospital in Rome have isolated the new coronavirus, which is responsible for over 300 deaths and tens of thousands of infections worldwide.

The news was given by Health Minister Roberto Speranza during a press conference. “We have isolated the virus,” said Speranza, “and this means (that we have) many opportunities to be able to study it, understand and better verify what can be done to stop the spread. (The virus) will be made available to the whole international community. Now it will be easier to treat him.

“Having isolated the virus promptly puts Italy in an advantageous position,” said Spallanzani’s scientific director Giuseppe Ippolito, “because he becomes an incredible interlocutor”.
