Malta Election: Official turnout till 2pm 32% (Updated)

Update: The Electoral Commission has said that the approximate percentage voting turnout for the European Parliamentary elections stood at 31.99% as at 2pm.
This means around 2% less than last European Parliament elections, held 5 years ago when the election turnout stood at 33.8%. The final turnout was 74.8%.

The number of people who did not bother collecting their voting document almost doubled when compared to the 2014 European election.
The Times reports that data released by the Electoral Commission showed that, by midnight on Thursday, the number of uncollected voting documents amounted to 38,737, or 10.4 per cent of the 371,625 registered voters.
At the last round of the MEP elections five years ago, 21,856 voters had not collected their voting documents. That was 6.3 per cent of the 344,374 people eligible to vote.
With regard to the local council election, 92,398 failed to collect their voting documents out of the 433,481 people eligible to vote. This translates into 21.9 per cent of the eligible voters.
There are 726 stations available for voters, and the vote is taking place between 7am and 10pm of Saturday.
MaltaToday reports that at around 9am, PN Leader Adrian Delia submitted his vote in the voting booth and posed for the journalists who were present. Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and his wife Michelle Muscat cast their vote in Burmarrad at around 10am. Newsbook reports that the President of Malta voted around noon in Zejtun.
TVM reports that apart from Malta, elections today are also Latvia, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The rest of EU citizens vote tomorrow in these elections.
Some 400 million Europeans are eligible to vote in the 28 member states to elect 751 Euro MPs.
Six Euro parliamentarians will be elected in the Malta election. The choice is being made among the 41 candidates – the biggest number of candidates ever contested in Malta for the European Parliament. This is the fourth European election that the Maltese citizens are participating in.
