Both of the Labour Party’s deputy leaders have again appealed to Prime Minister Joseph Muscat to stay on a party leader. (MaltaToday)
Deputy leader Chris Fearne said that the party’s success was down to competence, teamwork and a sense of duty towards the country. The Labour Party’s competence, he said, was embodied by Muscat, “who for years had led the party to one success after the other”.
Muscat has repeatedly said that he will not contest another election, insisting that he did not believe that any Prime Minister should remain in office more than ten years.
Children as young as 14 can now join the Labour Party, with the party having amended membership rules and reduced the minimum eligible age from 16. (Times of Malta)

The PN leader also slammed the government for its decision to steam ahead and add six new members to the judiciary this week, despite the Venice Commission having recommended changes to the way in which judges and magistrates are appointed. “They say they want to implent the reccomendations, but then appoint six more,” Dr Delia told supporters. Delia was addressing a political conference at St. Paul’s Bay where he spoke of certain accusations that were made by the Labour Party – that the Nationalists do not want to hold elections in certain localities. “The Labour Party accuses us of not wanting local council elections, when it was Joseph Muscat who said that local councils were never a favourite of his.” (The Malta Independent)
Partit Demokratiku deputy leader Timothy Alden will have to contest the local council elections as an independent candidate because of a clerical error, PD said on Friday. (The Malta Independent). PD said it is still one hundred percent behind its deputy leader in his campaign. If elected, Alden will still represent the Partit Demokratiku.
