Malta: Man in critical condition after stabbing incident in Luqa Pastizzerija

52 year old man from Birżebbuġa is in danger of dying after he was stabbed while at a pastizzeria in 9th April Street, Hal-Luqa.

Police said that at around 11.00am the injured man came into the police station with clear signs of having been injured by a sharp and pointed object.

TVM reports that the man was working at the pastizzeria, when another man who was armed, asked him for money. When the former refused, the latter knifed him in the neck.

The report adds that the aggressor fled the scene and the injured man went to the police station were he was given first aid from a police constable, while another constable gave chase to the aggressor who was about to flee the scene using a vehicle. The constable managed to note the car number plate and a search for the suspect began. He was arrested early in the afternoon after his car was found shortly before in Thomas Galea Street. The suspect is a 44 year old man from Hal-Luqa.

An inquiry into the case has been opened and is being conducted by Magistrate Joe Mifsud.
