Morning Briefing

No debates in PN leadership race

Adrian Delia and Alex Borg have been barred from debating or referring to one another under rules issued by the Nationalist Party ahead of the leadership contest. Interviews must be conducted separately, and at no point should both candidates appear together or mention each other. This marks a departure from the 2020 leadership contest, when Delia and Bernard Grech debated live on TV. Delia and Borg are now vying to lead the party following Bernard Grech’s resignation in June. Over 1,000 parliamentary questions remain unanswered
More than 1,000 parliamentary questions submitted to ministers since the start of the legislature remain unanswered. The Education Ministry leads with 182 pending replies, followed by the Transport Ministry with 150 and the Health Ministry with 127. Clifton Grima’s Education Ministry drew particular criticism for its lack of response. Some questions date back to before current ministers took office, including Chris Bonett and Jo Etienne Abela, who were appointed during the 2024 Cabinet reshuffle. (Maltatoday)

€2 million in film funding awarded to 36 maltese filmmakers
Thirty-six Maltese filmmakers have been awarded nearly €2 million in government funding through Arts Council Malta’s Screen Support Scheme. Now in its second year, the scheme doubled its investment from €1 million and supports projects from scriptwriting to production. Culture Minister Owen Bonnici said the government is committed to recognising the industry’s value, while ACM chairman Luke Dalli highlighted the scheme’s focus on sustainability, mentoring, and collaboration. A new sixth strand will assist in project promotion. (The Malta Independent)
