Court Hears How Plot to Kill Caruana Galizia Unfolded
When Vince Muscat, known as il-Koħħu, told police about the bomb used to kill Daphne Caruana Galizia, investigators grew concerned, a Court was told. Muscat revealed that the bomb suppliers had acquired three devices: one injured Romeo Bone in Msida in February 2017, another killed Caruana Galizia in October, and the third was unaccounted for. The mystery was solved in May 2018, when a bomb exploded at Kevin Ellul’s Għargħur farmhouse as he opened the door. Ellul, nicknamed “id-Double O,” was unharmed. Forensics later confirmed the device matched the others. This detail surfaced in court Friday, during Police Inspector Kurt Zahra’s testimony in the trial of four men—Adrian Agius, Robert Agius, Jamie Vella, and George Degiorgio—accused of supplying the Caruana Galizia bomb and murdering lawyer Carmel Chircop. All four plead not guilty. The case progressed after Muscat turned state witness in exchange for a presidential pardon in the Chircop case and a 15-year sentence for his role in Caruana Galizia’s assassination. University Clarifies Reform on Casual Lecturers Won’t Affect Part-Time Academics
The University of Malta clarified that its current effort to formalize the engagement of casual lecturers—also known as advanced academic members—does not impact part-time academics appointed by the University Council. It explained that casual lecturers are hired for a limited number of hours per semester, while part-time academics hold more established roles within faculties and institutes. The move aims to improve the allocation of academic resources and follows consultation with Deans, with the new process approved by the University Senate. The University assured that academic programmes will remain unaffected. (TVM)
