Financial issues are stressing us out, research shows
New research from the University of Malta reveals that financial and work-related issues cause more stress among Maltese individuals than death or divorce. Conducted by the Faculty for Social Well-being, the study aims to highlight pervasive stressors hindering people’s lives. Dean Andrew Azzopardi notes a societal shift towards materialism, exacerbating financial worries. 434 participants were surveyed, identifying 21 traumatic life events. Financial problems ranked highest in stress, affecting 68% significantly. Work-related issues followed, impacting 60%. Death of a loved one was common but less stressful. The study underscores the psychological toll of various stressors, emphasising the need for support mechanisms.
