Colombian man accused of dismembering deceased individual
A Colombian man accused of dismembering a deceased individual, concealing the remains in a suitcase, and disposing of it at sea entered a plea of not guilty to criminal charges on Saturday. Andres Leonardo Gamboa Duran, 43, from Cucuta, Colombia, appeared in court following a police press conference. Authorities clarified that, for now, he would not face murder charges. Prosecutors instead charged Duran with aggravated drug possession and trafficking, profiting from illicit proceeds, money laundering, tampering with evidence, and attempting to conceal a body linked to a criminal offence. Dressed in a white hoodie bearing the slogan “Gang Signs,” Duran was accompanied by an interpreter during the court proceedings. He pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Marse Ann Farrugia. No request for bail was made at this stage and Duran was remanded in custody. (Times of Malta)
