Authorities have launched a manhunt for individuals who fled a plane shortly after it landed at Malta International Airport on Wednesday. The incident unfolded when the captain of a Turkish Airlines flight requested an emergency landing in Malta due to a Moroccan passenger’s medical emergency. Upon approval from airport authorities, the plane landed at MIA. However, while still on the runway, several passengers disembarked and fled. Police were promptly notified, and efforts to locate the individuals are ongoing. (Times of Malta)
400 motorists fined during Christmas week
Over 400 fines were issued in the final days of 2024 for offences such as driving without a valid licence, using mobile phones while driving, and failing to wear seatbelts. Police credited heightened patrols and extensive traffic inspections for keeping Maltese roads free from major incidents during the Christmas and New Year period. Between 22 December and New Year’s Eve, authorities conducted more than 170 road checks and inspected over 4,700 vehicles. During these inspections, speed cameras led to 85 tickets, and breathalyser tests identified 11 drivers over the alcohol limit. Some vehicles were also towed due to missing documentation. In cases of reasonable suspicion, vehicle searches and police dogs were deployed. (Maltatoday)
