Morning Briefing

Public transport use rising in Malta
Residents in Malta make around 1.36 million trips daily, averaging 2.8 trips per person, according to a March 2025 survey by 20/20 Strategy. The study shows a notable shift towards public transport, with buses now accounting for 12.8% of all trips, up from 10.8% in 2023. Based on nearly 3,000 responses, the research highlights increasing bus patronage, greater frequency of use, and growing commuter satisfaction. Residents in Malta aged 16 and over make an estimated 1.36 million trips every day, averaging 2.8 trips per person per day across all modes of transport. Public buses now account for a larger share of daily trips than in previous years, as public transport’s share reached 12.8% in 2025, up from 10.8% in 2023.

Majority in Malta prefer palliative care over euthanasia
Seven in ten Maltese residents say they would choose palliative care to ensure a natural, pain-free death over assisted suicide, according to a new MISCO survey. The study also found that 47% would consider euthanasia if they felt like a burden to their loved ones. Personal experience influenced views, with those who lost relatives to illness more likely to favour palliative care. The survey also revealed widespread confusion about what “assisted dying” actually means. Only 60 per cent correctly understood it as the provision of lethal medication for patients to end their own lives, as outlined in the government’s consultation document.
