FSWS denies claims murder victim was discouraged from undergoing risk assessment
The Foundation for Social Welfare Services (FSWS) has refuted claims that its employees discouraged Nicolette Ghirxi, a murder victim, from undergoing a risk assessment. This denial follows statements from Ghirxi’s close friend and lawyer to the Times of Malta, alleging that Ghirxi had agreed to the assessment but was “talked out of it” during the evaluation. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the FSWS firmly stated that their employees did not dissuade Ghirxi from taking the risk assessment. To support their claim, the agency released affidavits from the two risk assessors present that day, Jodie Baldacchino and Pavel Cuschieri.
New regulations to prohibit interaction with wild animals in zoos
Human interaction with wild animals in zoos will now be prohibited unless a permit is granted by the Veterinary Regulation Directorate. The new regulations apply to a wide range of wild animals, including monkeys, tigers, and dolphins. The government announced these updated rules on the keeping of animals in zoos, more than four years after the publication of a White Paper. The regulations, set to take effect in two months, will also cover previously unregulated aspects of the 2002 law, including breeding, zoo enclosures, and safety practices. (Maltatoday)
