Malta Public Transport announces a number of network adjustments in connection with the introduction of its Summer Schedule, aimed at meeting seasonal passenger demand and improving service efficiency across the network.
The first phase of changes will come into effect on 13 June 2026, with additional adjustments being introduced from 5 July 2026.
As part of the summer network update, passengers travelling on several key routes connecting popular coastal and residential areas will benefit from increased service frequencies. Routes 212, 221, 223, 225 and 53 will all see additional trips introduced from mid-June, with further frequency improvements on selected routes from July.
Among the increases in frequency, Route 212 between Sliema and Buġibba will operate every 20 minutes throughout the day on weekdays from 13 June, before increasing further to every 15 minutes from 5 July. Similar improvements will also be implemented on Routes 221 and 222 connecting Buġibba to Ċirkewwa and Sliema to Ċirkewwa respectively.
Routes 223 and 225 serving Għajn Tuffieħa from Buġibba and Sliema will also operate more frequently during the summer months, increasing from hourly services to every 20 minutes to accommodate higher demand for the popular beach destination. Route 53 linking Valletta and Rabat will also operate every 30 minutes, thereby doubling the service during weekdays.
At the same time, frequency adjustments will be introduced on selected routes where passenger demand typically decreases during the summer period. Routes 61, 72, 73 and 43 will operate at revised frequencies. In line with the end of the scholastic year, Routes X1A, 150 and 207 will be suspended from 5 July 2026.
Passengers are encouraged to check the Tallinja App or Malta Public Transport’s website for full details regarding the summer schedule changes.
