Malta Public Transport unveils bus wrap inspired by students’ vision for a sustainable future

Malta Public Transport, in collaboration with the Malta ESG Alliance (MESGA), has unveiled a uniquely wrapped electric public bus featuring a painting that reflects the vision of Maltese and Gozitan students towards a sustainable future for the country.

The artwork, created live by artist Joe Farrugia, is based on the collation of ideas shared by the Consultative Council for Future Generations, at MESGA’s Isimgħuna Event, where over 500 students from 42 schools participated. The painting reflects their collective call for urgent and united action on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The artwork will now be featured on a Malta Public Transport bus during the months of July and August, helping to carry their message across the country.

The event, titled Isimgħuna (Listen to us), gave children and youngsters a national platform to voice their concerns, aspirations and recommendations for a more inclusive, fair and environmentally responsible Malta. Students addressed key themes such as climate action, poverty and inequality directly with national leaders, including the President of Malta, the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition.

The wrapped bus is part of a wider outreach programme by MESGA – of which Malta Public Transport is a founding member – through which the original painting is being exhibited in schools and at the offices of MESGA member organisations, amongst other prominent places. It aims to foster dialogue and inspire further action on the SDGs across sectors and generations.

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals were adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as a global blueprint to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all by 2030. MESGA and Malta Public Transport are both committed to playing an active role in advancing these goals in Malta, with this initiative serving as a striking reminder that everyone – especially the younger generation – has a stake in building a better future.

Konrad Pulé, General Manager of Malta Public Transport, said: “We are honoured to display this artwork on a public transport bus, a powerful symbol of the younger generation’s call for action. Sustainability is one of our core values, and we are committed to supporting initiatives that bring people together around these essential goals.”

David Xuereb, Chairperson of MESGA expressed pride in the students’ active role in shaping Malta’s sustainable journey: Young people are not only aware of the global challenges we face but are also deeply invested in being part of the solution. This artwork embodies their creativity, concern and determination. Through this collaboration with Malta Public Transport, we are ensuring their voice continues to be heard and seen across the country.”
