Residents have been evacuated from a neighbourhood in Guardamangia, in Malta, as a house and block of apartments adjacent to a construction site collapsed.
TVM reports that police and members of the civil protection are carrying a head count while searches are ongoing to ensure that no one is caught under the rubble. Net New s reports that those living in the collapsed building went out of the site before it collapsed.
Update : A Civil Protection Department official told Times of Malta that nobody was injured in the incident. “It’s too early to provide any further details, but nobody was hurt,” the spokesman said at 11.40pm.
Footage and photos from the site show that the left hand side corner of the building collapsed.
This is the second incident of its sort in Malta which happened on Wednesday, as earlier in the day a roof collapsed on a construction site in Swieqi .
