L-Orizzont reports on the Local Council elections and says that the Labour Party won by a landslide retaining traditionally PN-leaning localities Birkirkara, Rabat, and Xagħra. The paper says the elections are a humiliation to the PN.
MaltaToday reports that the Labour Party has confirmed its primacy across Malta and Gozo, registering impressive gains across the board in the second night of vote counting.
The party not only confirmed its majorities in the battleground localities of Msida and Birkirkara but won back San Ġwann in what has been a dismal night for the Nationalist Party.
But the PL also made impressive gains across the board, increasing its majority in Pieta – a locality that in the past had a PN majority – and strengthening its hold on strongholds in the south.
The Malta Independent reports that the PL won Kalkara, Gudja, marsaxlokk, Ghaxaq, Msida, Sannat, Paola, Pieta, Cospicua, Zabbar, Fgura, Rabat (Malta), Birkirkara, San Gwann, Marsascala, Xaghra while the PN won Lija, Rabat (Gozo), Sliema, Mgarr. It adds that as for Gharb, the PL took 2 seats, independent candidates took another 2 and the PN took 1 seat. TVM‘s report s in the same vein.
Newsbook reports that former PN Mayor of the Gozitan Locality David Apap managed to take his independent party, Gharb L’Ewwel ahead of the Nationalists to cease control of the locality.
