Malta’s Prime Minister remarks ahead of EU informal summit

Apart from Brexit the EU heads of state or government who will gather at the informal meeting in Salzburg on 19 and 20 September. will also discuss internal security and migration.

The summit will be hosted by Sebastian Kurz, Chancellor of Austria, which currently holds the Presidency of the Council and the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, will chair the meeting. He will represent the EU together with the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker.

On the eve of the meeting, leaders will meet for an informal working dinner with migration as the main topic. Leaders will discuss the latest developments in this area. They will also assess progress achieved to reduce irregular arrivals and to cooperate with third countries.

Speaking to Corporate Dispatch, Malta’s Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said “this summit will be an occasion for leaders to exchange ideas on migration following the heated exchanges over he past few months. One should also expect a concise discussion on Brexit, reaffirming positions.

The discussions during the informal summit will be reflected in the work and the conclusions of the next meetings of the European Council.
