Man carrying a firearm arrested outside St Paul’s Cathedral

A man, suspected of carrying a gun, has been arrested outside St Paul’s Cathedral in the City of London.

A spokesman for the City of London Police, which patrols the square mile around the capital’s financial hub, said confirmed the arrest following reports of an armed man at St Paul’s Cathedral. Parts of St Paul’s Cathedral were cordoned off as detectives in forensic suits examined and photographed evidence on the floor of the church yard.

The spokesman said was detained behind One New Change shopping centre by armed officers. For the time being there is no indication this incident is a terror related at this time.

The incident is believed to have begun in the cathedral’s shop, which remains closed whilst the rest of the church is business as usual with witnesses claiming that the man was tasered prior to being arrested.
