A 25-year-old Ivorian man was arraigned on murder charges this morning. He was charged with killing his partner, 35-year-old Lourdes Agius, in Paola, on Saturday morning. The Malta Independent /One
Agius was found dead on Saturday morning in the bedroom at her Paola residence, where it was confirmed that she died after being strangled. She was the mother of six children, including a baby. The man will be arraigned under arrest today before Magistrate Caroline Farrugia Frendo. TVM

A man is being held by the police as they investigate the death of a 35-year-old woman who was found dead in a residence in Paola on Saturday morning.
Media are reporting that the victim’s partner is being held for questioning.
One News reports that the woman is Lourdes Agius. Her partner has been identified as Michael Emanuel, from Ivory Coast. According to the report, the man insisted that he was the one who found her dead. The report says that according to the autopsy she died of asphyxia caused by strangulation.
TVM confirmed that he police are treating the case as a murder.
The Times reported that the two are believed to have a history of domestic violence. Details by TVM on the other hand refer to the moments leading to the discovery of the lifeless body of the woman by her mother. The woman was found dead in her bedroom. Once she found her daughter’s lifeless body, she promptly took to the streets to say her daughter had been murdered, according to reports.
Upon arrival, the police found the partner and a 2-month old baby.
No details were given apart from the fact that a magistrate had ordered an inquiry and that an autopsy will be carried out to establish the cause of death.
A police source quoted by The Times, when asked whether foul play is suspected, said “Nothing is being excluded at the moment”.
Police are still on site at the residence in Triq F Tortell after they were alerted to the case around 7am.
