Michelle Obama reveals why she doesn’t follow her daughters on social media

Michelle Obama follows just 10 people on Instagram; but her daughters Malia, 21, and Sasha, 18, don’t account for those numbers, according to the portal Honey.

The former First Lady Of The United States revealed in an interview on “Oprah’s 2020 Vision Tour Visionaries” that, despite her daughters living away from her at university, she won’t be hitting “follow” on their social media profiles any time soon.

She said that the reason that she won’t follow her girls online is because she doesn’t want them to define themselves by her or their dad, the former President of the United States, Barack Obama.

“What I tell them is what I continue to tell themselves is that they have to walk their own walk,” she admitted. “They cannot define themselves by looking at each other or looking at me or their dad.”

The lawyer and author confessed she felt it was important for her girls to have some breathing space to figure out “who they want to be in the world”.

“They have to take the time to get to know themselves,” she said.

“Not who they think I want them to be, not what the rest of the world says about them, but to really think about how they want to shape their lives and how they want to move in this world.
