Microsoft Teams’ new single app for personal and work is now available

Microsoft has officially launched a unified Microsoft Teams app that lets users switch seamlessly between personal and work accounts.

After being in testing for most of the year, this new app is now available for Windows and Mac users. The update not only brings together work, personal, and education accounts into a single Teams app but also enhances the experience of switching between different Teams tenants.

“You can also join as a guest without signing in,” says Amit Fulay, Microsoft’s vice president of product. “Whether you’re joining a call to connect with a customer or discuss your school’s fall fundraiser, simply select your preferred account when joining the meeting.”

Microsoft has struggled in the past to support both work and personal accounts in Teams. When Windows 11 first integrated Teams into the taskbar, it only supported personal accounts. This led to confusion as users had to install two separate Teams apps—one for personal use and one for work or school. However, with today’s update, the confusion is resolved, allowing you to view personal and work accounts side by side.

Additionally, notifications have been improved to help users quickly identify which team a notification is coming from.

If one is already using Microsoft Teams on Windows or Mac, the app will update automatically. Otherwise, one can download the new version from Microsoft’s website here.
