EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini met on Monday morning in Brussels with Libyan Prime Minister Fayez al Sarraj.

In her meeting Mogherini said the European Union expects that all parties and regional players immediately cease their military activities and resume political dialogue, in the interests of all Libyans.

Mogherini then expressed the EU’s full support of Ghassan Salamè, the UN secretary-general’s special representative, in his work towards a ceasefire and in encouraging a return to negotiations.

Mogherini and al Sarraj also discussed the humanitarian situation in Libya.

Mogherini highlighted the importance of guaranteeing humanitarian aid, the imperative of protecting civilians, and continued work in collaboration with UNHCR and IOM to protect and assist migrants in detention centres.
