Italy’s murder rate rose 15% in the four years from 2020 to 2023 and there were 329 homicides in 2023, up from 287 in 2022, according to figures released recently to coincide with the national police day in the country.
The number of female victims was 119 last year, stable with respect to four years previously.
On Gender violence, so-called ‘red flag’ crimes showed a slight fall over the four years as regards sexual violence and domestic abuse, while persecutory acts were also down.
