Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he is working in “full cooperation” with the US on a “common strategy” for Gaza following talks with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Netanyahu praised President Donald Trump’s “bold vision” for Gaza’s future and discussed with Rubio ways to “make that future a reality.” Trump’s controversial plan for the US to take over Gaza and resettle its population has been rejected by Palestinians and Arab nations.
Rubio acknowledged the plan was “shocking” to some but credited Trump for challenging “tired ideas” of the past.
During a press conference in Jerusalem, Rubio and Netanyahu highlighted shared goals, including dismantling Hamas’s governing power, preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, and monitoring the situation in post-Assad Syria.
Netanyahu also criticised the International Criminal Court (ICC) for what he called “outrageous libel” against Israel and thanked the US for imposing sanctions on the ICC, which had issued an arrest warrant for him and a senior Hamas commander over alleged war crimes in Gaza, charges that Israel denies.
