Netherlands Labour-Left Green alliance set to have narrow lead in EP elections – Exit Polls

Euronews reports that the GreenLeft-Labour alliance led by Timmermans is set to win eight seats in the new European Parliament, while PVV led by Geert Wilders won seven.

Dutch voters cast their ballots in the European election yesterday.

Broadcaster NOS has published an exit poll showing the Green-Left-Labour alliance with a narrow lead over the far-right Freedom party (PVV).

The exit poll results suggested that the green-socialist list would win eight out of the 31 seats the Netherlands gets in the European Parliament.

The radical right Freedom and Democracy Party is set to win seven seats and that Pro-European parties are expected to have picked up two-thirds of the votes.

The President of the Socialists and Democrats (S&D) group in the European Parliament, Iratxe García, has congratulated the Dutch Labour/Green alliance for pipping Geert Wilders to a preliminary victory in the Dutch exit polls.

“The message to Europe and to the far right is loud and clear! We are ready to build a new course to protect our progressive values and a strong social and green,” García said on social media platform X.

The final results will be confirmed on Sunday evening, but the early estimation suggests the left-leaning alliance has clinched eight of the Netherlands’ 31 seats in the European Parliament, while Geert Wilders’ far-right Party for Freedom (PVV) has secured seven.
