New cases decline throughout Italy while more patients heal

The number of coronavirus-infected patients in Italy has risen to 83,049, an increase of 2,477 on yesterday. This number nonetheless represents a significant improvement since 2,937 people were tested positive on Wednesday.

This improvement was also reflected in the worst-hit Lombardy region, which registered 1292 new contagions, more than 200 less than the day before.

Over 18,000 persons have now healed from the virus, with the numbers increasing on a daily basis. Angelo Borrelli, Head of the Civil Protection Department, announced that “the number of people being hospitalized has decreased. Mr Borrelli recently tested negative for coronavrus after falling ill.

Borelli added that “61 percent of the total infected people are in home isolation with no symptoms or with mild symptoms, a number that has increased in percentage terms”.
