New new heat record set in Lithuania

A new heat record was set in Lithuania last Friday as the mercury rose to 34 degrees centigrade in the southern resort town of Druskininkai, the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service reports.

The previous record was set just two years ago in Kretinga where temperature rose to 33.6 degrees.

Record-high temperatures were recorded by almost all the country’s main weather stations, with 84-year-old records broken in Vilnius, Kaunas, Šiauliai, and Lazdijai.

High temperatures also prevailed on June 27 and 30, but no historic records were set.
