Johnny Depp sues ex-wife Amber Heard for $50 million

American entertainment trade magazine and website Variety reported that American actor Johnny Depp filed a lawsuit for defamation against his ex-wife Amber Heard over the op-ed she wrote in the Washington Post back in December.

In it, Heard detailed her alleged experiences with domestic violence without naming Depp.

The suit Depp filed is for $50 million and says Heard “is not a victim of domestic abuse, she is a perpetrator.” The suit also denies that Depp ever abused Heard, and claims that her allegations were part of an “elaborate hoax to generate positive publicity”.

Heard’s attorney on the other hand said Depp’s action is just another in a series of repeated efforts to silence Amber Heard.

Heard and Depp married in 2015 after meeting in 2011 on the set of “The Rum Diary.” Heard filed for divorce in 2016 after claiming Depp was violent towards her, and donated the $7 million settlement that resulted from the split to charity.
