Strasbourg attack claims another victim – Polish 36 year old Bartosz Niedzielski

Bartosz Niedzielski, a 36-year-old Pole, who was seriously wounded during the attack in Strasbourg, died.

The man, was fighting for his life after being shot in the head.

Orent-Niedzielski and his Italian friend Antonio Megalizzi had blocked the attacker from entering a concert venue during Tuesday’s assault. When they saw the attacker, they reportedly rushed to stop him.

Megalizzi, 28, died from his injuries on Friday.

“My brother has just left us, thank you for your love and the strength you have given us, you will always watch over us and continue to bring us joy” – Bartosz Niedzielski’s brother Jakub wrote on Facebook in the evening.

On Tuesday, an armed attacker opened fire on people visiting the Christmas market in the capital of Alsace. Two people died on the spot, and 14 were wounded, including a Pole. At the moment, the list of deaths already includes 5 names.

The attacker turned out to be Cherif Chekatt, a Frenchman of Moroccan origin who had already been watched by the French services for a possible terrorist threat.

The man died two days later during a raid involving over seven hundred officers of the French security services. The attack was admitted by the so-called Islamic State, but the French authorities denied that Islamists were responsible for this crime.

Seven people were detained after the attack. On Saturday, the parents and two brothers of the attacker were released from custody, today – another two people associated with Chekatt. Investigators check if someone was helping the man in the attack and during the two-day escape.
