Maltatoday’s front page carries two stories. In the main one, entitled <<UNESCO experts stop hotelier’s bid to turn St Elmo into laguna>> we read that UNESTO stopped a proposal by hoteliers to gut a part of St Elmo fort in Valletta to create an artificial laguna in the parade grounds. The plan was presented by the company Sohum Wellness, and architect Ray Demicoli. The report, by Matthew Vella, also adds that ‘Man from Vitals Global Shaukat Ali has business relationships with Indian millionaire who was planning the mentioned development. In a second story we read that <<Swedes to prevent Crane from printing Krona in Malta>>. In this report we read that a plan to shift the printing of the Swedish currency banknote in Crane Currency’s new plant has hit the rocks, after the Swedish Central Bank declared it will prevent the country’s currency printing from moving to Malta.

The Sunday Times reveals that Bet365 – one of the world’s leading online gambling groups – has finalised plans to relocate its operations to Malta from Gibraltar as soon as the UK exits the European Union next year.  The group, owned by a British family and according to its latest published accounts (2015) having had a revenue of €1.5 billion, is expected to relocate some 1,000 employees from its operations in Gibraltar, significantly boosting Malta’s economy and dependence on the online gambling industry. In the report entitled <<UK gambling giant moving to Malta>>, Ivan Camilleri reveals that the owners of Bet365 have already signed a promise of sale agreement to acquire a large part of a new property development sprouting out on the Tigné peninsula in Sliema to serve as the company’s hub of operations.

In a second story <<FIAU asked Latvia’s help over 17 Black>>, Claire Caruana writes that anti-money laundering investigators in Malta have requested assistance from the authorities in Latvia to trace payments made via ABLV Bank and connected to alleged corruption involving the company 17 Black. The Sunday Times also presents a photo of the newly-wed Royal couple, entitled <<You look amazing>>.

The Malta Independent leading story, signed by David Lindsay is entitled <<Gaping hole in Gasol audited accounts after Malta exit>>. In this story we read that the latest available financial statements of Gasol, the former lead partner of the Delimara power station project, show nothing but a blank space in a note meant to contain the specific financial details about the company’s exit from the Malta project. In a second story, the newspaper refers to the social housing project. <<Private sector could build government’s social housing plan for €38 million less, MDA President says>>, quotes MDA President referring to calculations the MDA did and which indicate that the project can be done for less than what was cited by Government.

It-Torċa’s main story is about IVF. Victor Vella’s report <<Ħallu l-għażliet kollha lil-koppji>> quotes Dr Steven H Snyder, a lawyer who specialises on IVF who argues that the couples going through IVF procedures should be given all options, including that of anonymity of the egg, sperm and gamet donors. The last story on the newspaper’s story is related to the GWU’s position to protect the police. <<Il-GWU trid li tieqaf il-mibegħda lejn il-pulizija>> focuses on the position of the union as also declared in yesterday’s solidarity march organised in Valletta. It-Torċa also carries a photo story highlighting the positive year at Palumbo dry-docks.
