UPDATE: Two men died and another two were hospitalised after their fishing boat capsized off Żonqor Point during the night. One of the dead, a 29-year-old Moroccan national was found immediately but the body of the other missing fisherman was only found in the afternoon in the limits of Pembroke following an intense search by the Armed Forces of Malta. The police initially said that the four men are all Sicilians, but in a statement in the afternoon said that the man who died was from Morocco. (Malta Independent)
A 29 year old person died, while two were hospitalised after the fishing boat they were on board capsized.
Today, at about 0400hrs, the Police were informed that a fishing boat capsized off Zonqor Point limits of Marsascala.
Preliminary investigations by the District Police found that four Sicilian fishermen were on the boat at the time of the incident. Two, both 35-year-old, swam towards the coast, a 29-year-old man was rescued by members of the Civil Protection Department whilst the other man is still missing. One News, on the other hand said that the person who died at sea was a 29 year old Moroccan.
Ambulances that were called on site took the 3 persons to Mater Dei Hospital. Unfortunately, the 29-year-old lost his life whilst the other two were certified as suffering from slight injuries.
The Armed Forces of Malta are still searching for the missing man.
A Magisterial Inquiry has been appointed into the case.
Police investigations are still underway. .
Rough seas and strong winds have hit the Maltese islands in the past hours.
The incident was reported early on Saturday (at 0430h) local time.
