Over 800 Athletes Already Registered For Żurrieq Half Marathon Events

The 27th edition of the Express Trailers Żurrieq Half Marathon and 10km will take place on Sunday, 15 November, with more than 800 athletes already registered. This marks an increase on the 767 registrations recorded for last year’s 2025 edition which eventually went on to attract over 1,300 participants.

The decision taken by Express Trailers three years ago to reconfirm its sponsorship of the Żurrieq Half Marathon and 10km races, based on the organisers’ commitment to continue growing the event, has proved to be the right one.

When Express Trailers first became involved with the Żurrieq Wolves Athletic Club event in 2013, the race was attracting around 130 athletes. Since then, participation has grown substantially, reaching more than 1,000 applications by 2015–16 and more than 1,500 registrations in 2018. Around 1,300 athletes participated in 2019, establishing the Żurrieq races as one of Malta’s leading road-running events.

Although the Covid-19 pandemic interrupted the event in 2020 and 2021, participation has since recovered strongly. More than 1,300 athletes took part in the combined events last year, while the number of registrations for this year’s edition is already ahead of the corresponding figure in 2025.

For Express Trailers CEO Etienne Attard, these latest figures form part of a remarkable story of sustained growth and demonstrate the value of long-term corporate support for sporting events.

“As this race continues to attract growing interest, we recognise that corporate sponsorships like ours play a crucial role in ensuring the sustainable growth of such events,” said Mr Attard. “Our support will once again help guarantee the highest level of organisation and safety protocols to ensure that all athletes enjoy a memorable experience in a safe environment.”

Express Trailers’ involvement also goes beyond financial sponsorship. The company provides logistical support, including vehicles such as the lead car and other transport assistance required for the organisation and setting up of the event.

The partnership, which began in 2013, has therefore developed into a long-term commitment to an event that has grown from a relatively small local race into one of Malta’s most established road-running events.

“Express Trailers’ support has been fundamental to the club and to this annual event,” said Joe Micallef on behalf of Malta Marathon, the organisers of the event.

“With registrations already ahead of last year’s pace, the 2026 edition looks set to provide another clear indication that this year’s event will once again reconfirm the growing popularity of this unique road running event,” added Mr Micallef.
