On Tuesday the French President Emmanuel Macron will host the four main rivals of Libya including Al-Mishri, the Head of the Presidential Council Fayez Al-Sirraj, the Speaker of the House of Representatives Aqilah Saleh and the commander of the self-styled army in east Libya Khalifa Haftar.

The High Council of State (HCS) has decided to attend the international conference in Paris that will be held on Tuesday at the Élysée Palace with a delegation headed by Khalid Al-Mishri – the Head of the HCS.

The international conference in Paris will be attended by representatives of 19 countries, including the five members of the UN Security Council, Italy, neighbouring countries Egypt, Tunisia, Chad, in addition to UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Turkey, Algeria and Morocco. Malta is represented by Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and the country’s Foreign Minister Carmelo Abela.

Earlier, the most powerful brigades in western Libya rejected the Paris conference scheduled for May 29, saying “the French initiative does not represent us.”

In a letter to the Presidential Council, the High Council of State and the House of Representatives, 13 brigades and military councils called for a real dialogue inside the country that achieves Libyans’ aspirations.
They expressed commitment to the country’s sovereignty and unity, rejecting foreign interference in Libya’s internal affairs. The statement deplored the initiatives that “aim to reinstate the military rule in Libya,” vowing support to “the civil democratic state and peaceful transfer of power.” “We urge the UN mission to be impartial toward the Libyan file including protection of civilans.” The statement reads, adding that ending the war in the country is a top priority.
