Paris Saint-Germain president charged by Swiss prosecutors for bribery linked to WorldCup TV rights

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser al-Khelaifi was charged by Swiss federal prosecutors in connection with a wider bribery investigation linked to World Cup television rights.

The Qatari businessman has been charged by the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland against the PSG president, former FIFA secretary general, Jerome Valcke and another businessman in the sports rights sector a press release says.

Valcke was charged with accepting bribes, several counts of aggravated criminal mismanagement and falsification of documents. Euronews adds that a third person who was not identified was charged with bribery and also for inciting Valcke to commit aggravated criminal mismanagement.

The PSG president purchased a villa through a company and let Valcke live their without paying rent, which would have totalled between €900,000 and €1.8 million.

Valcke never mentioned this to FIFA as he was required to and thus “enriching himself” according to the statement.
