People seek to leave Milan after lockdown decision

Italian media is reporting that at Central Station in Milan there are many people who have decided to leave or to anticipate departures after the decree that effectively closes Lombardy and 14 other provinces for the Coronavirus emergency.

Despite larger than usual crowds, Italian media reported that the station on Sunday morning there is no chaos bit with many wearing a mask.

The Lampugnano terminal in Milan was crowded before 7 am, the main stop for scheduled buses throughout Italy and abroad.

Around 150 waited for buses, especially foreigners, worried about not being able to return to their country, and students, who for the same reason want to return to their families. Generally, at this time of Sunday morning the airport is almost deserted.

 

The announcement by the Italian Government putting all of  Lombardy in the red zone for the Coronavirus emergency does not seem, at the moment, to have triggered panic or hastened the citizens on their departure to other Italian cities or those of origin from Milan airport.

ANSA reported that Alitalia check-in desks are almost empty and most of the few people in the queue had already scheduled their departures
