UPDATED: Persons on board Alan Kurdi rescue boat at risk after being threatened by Libyan Coastguard

92 people and 17 rescuers are in danger as the Libyan Coastguard has surrounded the Alan Kurdi vessel and are threatening the crew and migrants at gun-point

Gordon Isler Chairman of the German migrant rescue vessel Sea Eye has warned through a tweet, Newsbook reports.

It is unclear how many vessels are surrounding the NGO vessel but Isler warns that they are obstructing the vessel’s operations. He adds that there are ‘people in the water.’

Later Isler said that crews came under fire as they went to the aid of migrants trapped on a stricken dinghy in the Mediterranean, say charity bosses.

As the crew handed life jackets to men and women aboard a white dinghy, Libyan boats arrived and tried to hamper the rescue operation, he added.

Men on the speedboats fired ‘warning shots’ into the air and sea and pointed mounted guns at the rescuers, who were in ‘total shock’, said Mr Isler.
