Peru’s President calls next general elections for April 2026

Peruvian President Dina Boluarte announced general elections on April 12, 2026, aiming to resolve ongoing instability.

Peruvian President Dina Boluarte called for general elections to be held on April 12, 2026, saying she hoped the vote would put an end to a period of instability.

Boluarte took office in 2022 after her predecessor, former President Pedro Castillo, was removed from office. Her term ends in 2026.
