Petrobras’ CEO resigns following nationwide strikes in Brazil

The head of Brazil’s oil giant Petrobras, Pedro Parente, has resigned, following a nationwide strike by lorry drivers that caused huge disruption.

Pedro Parente’s resignation was one of the demands of striking workers due to worries that he was going to privatise Brazil’s share of the Latin American oil company.

The resignation comes as Brazilian workers begin a three-day strike. Unions also called for an end to a policy of allowing the market to set the price of fuel.
