UPDATED: Philippine bomb warnings ‘most likely a hoax’ – aviation police

MANILA, Oct 6 (Reuters) – An anonymous warning that bombs could go off on planes headed out of the airport in the Philippine capital Manila was “most likely a hoax,” the chief of the country’s aviation security group said on Friday.

“Airport operation is continuous, it’s normal,” the group’s director Jack Wanky added.

Earlier, the Philippines placed 42 airports on heightened alert following a series of warnings that bombs could be set off on planes, its civil aviation authority said on Friday.

“Immediate enhanced security measures” were being implemented across all Philippine commercial airports, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said in a media advisory, adding the warnings were being verified.

It said the flights identified were headed to Cebu, Bicol, Davao and Palawan.
